Dear friends, colleagues, and community members— Vince and Gina Benevento are living through every parent’s worst nightmare. Earlier this summer, their beloved son Leo, age 12, was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a rare and life-threatening condition that affects only about 2 out of every million people worldwide. Severe aplastic anemia occurs when the body’s bone marrow stops producing enough new blood cells, leaving the immune system dangerously weak and the body unable to fight infections. In severe cases like Leo’s, urgent and aggressive medical treatment is critical. His condition has taken away his ability to do the things he loves most—riding his bike, fishing, playing contact sports, and spending time indoors with friends without restrictions. Leo has entered a clinical trial and has been selected to receive a bone marrow transplant. The road ahead will bring extended hospital stays, ongoing doctor visits, and several medical procedures—along with the emotional weight of uncertainty for the entire family. All the while, Vince and Gina will be caring for their other two beautiful children, Gia and Vince Jr., while doing everything in their power to support Leo through this fight. While Vince and Gina would never ask for financial help themselves, those of us who love them understand the reality that even with good insurance, the costs of treatment, lost wages, and the day-to-day demands of raising three young children during a medical crisis are overwhelming. On top of this, the family hopes to give Leo safe, meaningful experiences to occupy his time, lift his spirits and help him feel like a kid again—efforts that also come with added expenses. Vince has spent his career helping families and their children navigate life’s toughest challenges as the Founder of Causeway Collaborative. He has been a steady source of strength, compassion, and guidance for countless young people and parents. Now, it’s our turn to step up for Vince, Gina, Leo, Gia, and Vince Jr. Your donation—no matter the size—will help ease the immense financial burden and allow Vince and Gina to focus entirely on what matters most: helping Leo get well.
